UAE VAT Invoice Requirements 2026: What You Need to Know
Everything you need to know about UAE VAT invoice requirements. Mandatory fields, TRN rules, and how to stay compliant.
If you're VAT-registered in the UAE, every invoice you issue must meet specific requirements set by the Federal Tax Authority (FTA). Getting it wrong can mean VAT filing complications, penalties, and unhappy customers.
This guide covers everything you need to know about UAE VAT invoice requirements in 2026.
Who Needs to Issue Tax Invoices?
You must issue tax invoices if:
- You're registered for VAT in the UAE
- You make taxable supplies of goods or services
- The supply value exceeds AED 10,000 (including VAT)
For supplies under AED 10,000, a simplified tax invoice is acceptable.
Full Tax Invoice Requirements
For supplies over AED 10,000, your invoice must include:
| Field | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Header | The words "Tax Invoice" prominently displayed |
| Supplier Name | Your business name as registered with FTA |
| Supplier TRN | Your Tax Registration Number |
| Customer Name | Customer's name (for B2B) |
| Customer TRN | Customer's TRN (for B2B) |
| Invoice Date | Date of invoice issue |
| Invoice Number | Unique sequential number |
| Description | Description of goods or services |
| Quantity | Quantity and unit price |
| Taxable Amount | Amount before VAT |
| VAT Rate | 5% or 0% as applicable |
| VAT Amount | In AED |
| Total | Total amount including VAT |
Simplified Tax Invoice Requirements
For supplies of AED 10,000 or less:
- The words "Tax Invoice"
- Your business name
- Your TRN
- Invoice date
- Description of goods/services
- Total amount including VAT
- VAT amount or statement that amount includes VAT
TRN Rules
Your Tax Registration Number (TRN):
- Is a 15-digit number starting with 100
- Available from your VAT registration certificate
- Must appear on all tax invoices
- Can be validated on the FTA website
For B2B transactions, you should obtain and include your customer's TRN.
Common VAT Invoice Mistakes
- Missing TRN: Invoices without TRN aren't valid tax invoices
- Incorrect VAT calculation: Calculating VAT on VAT-inclusive amounts
- Vague descriptions: "Services rendered" isn't sufficient
- Wrong date: Invoice date must match tax point
- Missing invoice number: Sequential numbering is required
VAT Rates in UAE
| Rate | Applies To |
|---|---|
| Standard (5%) | Most goods and services |
| Zero (0%) | Exports, certain education, certain healthcare, first supply of residential buildings |
| Exempt | Certain financial services, residential property, bare land |
Invoice Timing
You must issue a tax invoice within 14 days of the date of supply.
For continuous supplies: invoice due by the earlier of payment received or 14 days after payment is due.

The FTA requires you to keep VAT records for 5 years after the end of the tax period.
